The Roadmap To Your Future Self
I want to walk you through an exercise I’ve been doing with myself lately.
Imagine you already have everything you desire.
Your business is where you want it. Your health is where you want it. Your relationships are where you want them.
You wake up. That’s the day.
Now ask: what are you doing?
Not what have you accomplished. What are you doing… this morning, in this decision, in this exact moment?
For me, some of what my future self is doing is already true within my day. I journal. I pray. I sit in stillness before the day gets loud. Those pieces are already consistently a part of my day.
But some of that future version of me wasn’t. That future me gets up earlier, not for the hustle, but because it’s 105 degrees by 9am and she protects her walk like it’s non-negotiable.
That’s it. That’s the gap. Not a five-year plan. In this small example, it is just about an alarm clock.
So, the question for you is…
What must be true for that future version of you to exist?
That’s the real question. Not “how do I get there someday.” What has to be true, starting today, for that future version of you to already be real?
And once you know the answer, you can use it all day long.
Stuck on a decision? Ask what that version of you would do.
Tempted to skip the thing you said you’d do? Ask what they’d do.
Not what they’d accomplish. What they’d do, right now, in this moment.
Here’s the part that gets me every time.
Somewhere back there is a past version of you who would be envious of where you are right now. Today. As you are, with all your ordinary, imperfect days.
I think about that version of me a lot. She would be stunned and so envious of where I sit today… of what is already true. This is the version of me that she only dreamed about. Take the time to be proud of where you are at but also holding tight to your future growth.
And that’s the whole game… building a future self that some version of you, someday, will look back on the exact same way.
Not through a leap. Through a decision. Then another one. Then another.
What must be true today, for that person to exist?
Go find out.
If you want to take this further, I put together a full workbook to walk through it. The Future Self Roadmap includes journaling prompts, a way to envision your future self in detail, and a simple way to close the gap one decision at a time.
