You’re Not Faking It. You’re Practicing It.
Last week, we talked about the power of the words “I am.” We explored how identity shapes our choices and challenged ourselves to begin speaking as the person we’re becoming.
But here’s where most people get stuck.
They think they have to fully believe the new story before they can live it.
They wait until they feel confident to speak up.
They wait until they feel disciplined to build new habits.
They wait until they feel ready to take the next step.
What if it works the other way around?
Acting “as if” isn’t pretending to be someone you’re not.
It’s practicing becoming someone you want to be.
Think about learning to play an instrument, drive a car, or play pickleball. At first, nothing feels natural. You’re thinking about every movement. You make mistakes. You second-guess yourself.
No one calls that fake.
They call it practice.
The same is true for your mindset.
When you speak up before confidence feels automatic…
When you set a boundary before it feels comfortable…
When you keep a promise to yourself when no one’s watching…
When you make one decision that aligns with the identity you’re choosing…
You’re not pretending.
You’re rehearsing the person you’re becoming.
Every aligned choice becomes evidence. And evidence is how a practiced identity turns into a lived one.
Today’s practice is outlined in the resource document. Be sure to subscribe below to access it.
Our practice isn’t about a whole shift. It is not a leap. It is a rep. That’s it. That’s where the magic happens.
